Work on HIPPO continues to focus on further increasing the optical output power of DFB lasers while maintaining low RIN and single mode operation. The new DFB chips generate more than 200mW of single mode (SMSR>50dB) CW light with very low RIN (<-160dB/Hz).





High-speed photodetectors fabricated showed a bandwidth of up to 20GHz, high photo-currents (60mA) and responsivities between 0.8 to 1.1 A/W.
